“Be careful about understanding what you're getting into with these termite bonds with Cook's. We didn't go with others (like Orkin, etc.) because they were supposed to cover and fix termite damage if found during the active bond on the house. Other termite bond companies didn't seem to have this... Well...We found termite damage in a wall when started a remodel in our house and brought them out to see about remediating the damage and they said they're not required to do anything if the termites aren't "active". He was correct in saying the termite colony wasn't active because when we pulled off the sheetrock, there were no termites/eggs/etc but there was obvious damage to boards behind the wall and he admitted it was definitely termites. I get Cook's side as they don't know when the damage occurred (ie, could have been long ago and just finding it) but they're not very upfront about telling you this and there was no willingness to work with us (just shrugged and basically said it's your problem since it's not active). I would hope that if you have a Cook's bond for the life of the house since it's built, they would repair any damage regardless of termite activity but who knows. Needless to say, we're very disappointed by this position and consumers are always in a bad position when anything like this is found due to all the "technicalities" in the legal fine print. Just hoped there might be a little grey area we could find compromise.”
